You can rename a friend who hasn’t signed up yet, but if they have, you won’t be able to since they own their data now.

Artem Russakovskii: Could be useful, I could also see it being a bit confusing in conversation if discussing debts and someone having a "different" name, but that would be the burden of the user who set a nickname for their friend.
